The John Melvin University basketball team hit the road for the first time this year for a matchup with Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). The two high-powered offenses combined for 188 points as the Millers scored their season-high in points but fell by a score of 98-90. Despite the loss, some of Coach Bryant's freshmen stepped up in big ways and look to be a big part of the game plan moving forward.
Coming off a big game in the Millers season-opening win, Tayshaun Colomb was in the starting lineup again at SUNO and produced the best game of his young career. Colomb racked up 34 points, including five three-pointers and going seven for seven from the free throw line. Colom also picked up 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 assists to round out his big game.
Freshman 2-sport athlete Jace Gailey put up a massive game under the basket as well. When Gailey isn't competing on the baseball field, he's dominating the backboards. The 6'7 Freshman picked up a Millers season-high 17 rebounds in the road matchup. In addition to his work on the backboards, Gailey picked up three steals and three blocked shots while scoring his season-high 10 points.
The Miller Freshman are off to a hot start to the season statistically, with Gailey leading the country in total rebounds and second in the country in total blocks. Colomb is also second in the country in total points, trailing by just 2 points.
The Millers will next be in action on Wednesday, October 30th @ Southeast Christian College in Florida for the NSAC Tip-Off Classic!
