John Melvin University traveled to future Red River Conference opponent Louisiana State University - Alexandria on Tuesday for midweek action. A game that started off looking highly competitive, turned out not to be as the Millers won in run-rule fasion in a 17-3 route of the Generals.
The Millers offense had the breakout game that they have been waiting for to get back on track for the season, banging out 17 runs on 15 hits. The offense was led by Trevor Durr and Andrew Ashby each contributing 3 hits while Noah Watkins and Cabet Blanchard each picked up multi-hit games. 8 different Miller hitters scored a run in the game, led by Ashby scoring 4 runs; and 7 different Millers picked up RBI's in the game, led by Noah Watkins with 3.
Coming off a bye week, the JMU pitching staff rolled out the "johnny whole staff" approach in the midweek game. Sophomore Garrett Walker started the game, throwing two innings with one earned run allowed. Those would be the only runs that they pitching staff would allow in the game as Peyton Ford, Willy Flynn, Zayne Earl, and Bryce Oquinn combined to finish off the rest of the game, allowing just 2 hits and punching out 7 while not allowing a run.
